These compounds act as protonophores, allowing hydrogen ions to leak through the inner mitochondrial membrane. Although isolated nematode mitochondria are susceptible, many fasciolicides are ineffective against nematodes in vivo, apparently due to a lack of drug uptake. Exceptions are the hematophagous nematodes, eg, Haemonchus and Bunostomum.

A lymphatic dwelling filarioid nematode, Rumenfilaria ...

4/16/2015 · Recent studies revealed expansion of filarioid nematodes into northern Finland. In addition to Setaria tundra, an abundant filarioid, Rumenfilaria andersoni, was found inhabiting the lymphatic vessels of reindeer. Our study explores the dynamics of the rapid geographic expansion of R. andersoni, defining prevalence and density of microfilariae among 4 new cervid host species in …

8/28/2013 · The barber's pole worm, Haemonchus contortus, is one of the most economically important parasites of small ruminants worldwide. Although this parasite can be controlled using anthelmintic drugs, resistance against most drugs in common use has become a widespread problem. We provide a draft of the genome and the transcriptomes of all key developmental stages of H. contortus to …

From hematophagous arthropods nematodes and platyhelminthes. Our analysis showed that the overall phylogenetic relationship among these Kunitz peptides was not resolved using maximum likelihood methods, apparently due to their amino acid sequence diversity. Only a few internal clades in the ML tree showed bootstrap support values higher than 50%.

This standing dead wood is home to a variety of oribatid mites and other detritivores that invade from the bark or in association with wood-boring insects. Predatory mites follow the scavenger-microbivores and other prey (e.g., nematodes) into the wood.

Mechanism and evolution. These hematophagous animals have mouth parts and chemical agents for penetrating vascular structures in the skin of hosts, mostly of mammals, birds, and fish. This type of feeding is known as phlebotomy (from the Greek words, phleps "vein" and tomos "cutting"). Once phlebotomy is performed (in most insects by a specialized fine hollow "needle," the proboscis, …

2/20/2018 · Dogs have a close association with humans providing companionship, security and a source of dietary protein. However, dogs are also potential carriers of zoonotic pathogens.
